"I believe that the great American hamburger is a thing of beauty, its simple charms noble, pristine. The basic recipe--ground beef, salt, and pepper, formed into a patty, grilled or seared on a griddle, then nestled between two halves of a bun, usually but not necessarily accompanied by lettuce, a tomato slice, and some ketchup--is, to my mind, unimprovable by man or God. A good burger can be made more complicated, even more interesting by the addition of other ingredients--like good cheese or bacon.....relish perhaps, but it will never be made better." - Anthony Bourdain, from the chapter entitled 'Meat', in his book Medium Raw.

Jim's Burgers (Ogden, Utah)

The garlic burger at Jim's in Ogden.  Guest blogger S.A. declared it "garlicky."

Grizzly Bar (Roscoe, Montana)

Just getting to the Grizzly Bar in Roscoe, Montana is an adventure in and of itself.  In fact, they sell shirts proudly emblazoned with the phrase "Where the hell is Roscoe?"  Well, Roscoe is about 80 miles outside of Billings and about 20 miles outside of Red Lodge.  And. it. is. gorgeous.

Our awesome hosts gave us the choice of eating in Red Lodge or driving to "The Grizz" (as the locals call it).  After their description of The Grizz as being a one-of-a-kind place, we knew we had to go there.  S. was immediately sorry she had a burger for lunch because how cool would it be to get a photo of the burger from The Grizz for this blog?  But guest blogger L.W.  offered to take one for the team and order a burger so S. could get a photo.  Mmmm.  It looks delicious.

Bin 119 (Billings, Montana)

Bin 119 bills itself as an American Bistro and Wine Bar, but S. had to have a beer with her burger.  'Cause that combo just works better.

The Blue Cheese and Bacon Burger was $9.95 and came with a choice of sides (S. went for the soup of the day).  Doesn't that bacon look so pretty, all criss-crossed so perfectly on that burger?  S. thought this burger was delicious!  It was obvious that the blue cheese was a quality cheese, which is very important.

But for some reason, S. keeps calling the restaurant Bin 411, rather than 119 -- and she has no idea why.

The Gun Barrel (St. George, Utah)

The Gun Barrel is known for its steaks.  And S. thinks they should also be known for their burgers.
